Joe Burow

Branch Manager at Midwest Equity Mortgage, LLC

I have been originating mortgages for over 10 years now, quite possibly a period of time unlike any other, with regards to changes in compliance and regulations. Despite the challenges that came about, specifically in 2007 and 2008 when the rug literally was pulled out from under the industry, I reflect back to that time and realize that however difficult things were from day to day, I never once considered leaving the mortgage business. Quite simply, it comes down to the satisfaction that goes along with improving a person(s) financial circumstances, and knowing that the benefit you provided, will change the lives of those involved. It is a responsibility that I never take lightly, and I never intend to give anyone a reason to regret having chosen me to handle their mortgage needs.

When away from the office, I enjoy sports and follow the Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers, and the Wisconsin Badgers. In addition, I follow Home Talent League Baseball, as I have the privilege of watching my youngest son play. I am also a long time golfer and maintain a single digit handicap. Other enjoyment for me comes from distance running. I run in numerous 5K events each year, along with half marathons.

Education and Experience

While I have both Technical School and State College behind me, with that time having been spent pursuing a marketing degree, I feel that my real life experiences have played as big a part in my life as being educated.  Madison Area Technical College was a great experience for me.  Along with being educated in Sales and Marketing, I played on both the golf and basketball teams.  While I opted to forego any athletics at UW-Whitewater, I worked close to 40 hours per week at a grocery store, and was given a great deal of responsibility there.  I feel those real life experiences dealing with all walks of life, were as valuable to me in the long run, as my actual education.  I would never downplay the value of continued education, but learning how to handle daily situations in retail with people, was a very great time of learning a lot about the real world, and how to deal with anything that came up each day.  For me, those were wonderful times, and very beneficial in shaping who I am today.

I have had many service oriented affiliations as well that have given me opportunities to help people, and also meet many individuals that have remained friends over the years as well.  I have been affiliated with Optimist International, and held positions on the board of directors during my time in the group.  I have also been in the Lions Club, and worked in the community for various club functions.  In addition, I am a member of the Knight of Columbus.  However, it is likely that my most enjoyable memories were in coaching youth baseball for 6 years during the time my sons were playing.  Being on a ball field, on a team with your son(s) is something that is memorable, for both yourself and that son, and it is an experience I will never forget.  Lastly, I was a long time member of the Chamber of Commerce in my home town, being very active on the retail committee, and held the positions of vice-president and president elect.  I was not able to continue on and be the president that following year because of entering the mortgage world, and having a commute to make each day.  However, all the years I spent were very good for me, as I met so many people and was able to be involved in a great deal of community based projects and events, and feel that my influence was positive for others, and the community as well.
